Nothing you do is sent anywhere. This extension has no server, no account system and no analytics. Everything it records stays in your browser's local storage on your own device.
What the extension records
While you watch a video on YouTube, it stores, on your device only:
- The video id, title and channel name
- How many seconds you watched, broken down by calendar day
- The uploader's tags, YouTube's own category, and the first 300 characters of the description, used to work out the topic
- Any corrections or rules you set yourself
Time is counted only while the tab is visible, the video is playing, and it isn't a muted autoplay preview.
What it does not do
- No data is transmitted off your device. There is no server to send it to
- No accounts, no sign-in, no identifiers, no cookies set by the extension
- No analytics, telemetry, crash reporting or usage tracking
- No advertising, and nothing is sold or shared with anyone
- Your YouTube account is never accessed, and no credentials are read
Network requests
The extension makes exactly one kind of network request: it loads the public YouTube watch page for a video you have watched, in order to read that video's tags and category.
- Only for videos you actually watched, and only once per video, ever
- Sent signed out (
credentials: "omit"), so it retrieves the same public page any anonymous visitor would see and never touches your account or watch history - The download is stopped as soon as the needed fields appear
- No other site is ever contacted
Permissions, and why
storage: to save your watch totals on your device*://www.youtube.com/*: to measure playback on YouTube pages and read the public metadata described above. The extension does not run on any other website.
Your data, your control
- Export: "Export JSON" writes the full raw log to a file
- Delete: "Reset data" clears your watch history
- Remove everything: uninstalling the extension deletes all of its stored data along with it
Because nothing is ever uploaded, there is no copy anywhere else to request, correct or erase.
Children
The extension is not directed at children and collects no personal information from anyone.
